Christmas Decorations and Selling Your Home

Should you DECORATE or NOT? It's a VERY GOOD Question
Whenever you are marketing a property there is so much to think about when creating that ‘WOW’ moment for buyers. Just because you are selling your home at this time of year, doesn’t mean that the decorations must stay in the loft!
Follow our tips and ensure that your home is WONDERLAND CHIC rather than CHRISTMAS GROTTO.

1.  Choose The Correct Size Tree & Decorations
Work with the space that you have. You may love your 7’ Christmas tree which takes up half of the lounge and means that one of the sofas has to move to the dining room, your viewers wont! If they remember the tree, they are not remembering what your home has to offer.
Use a smaller slimline tree to show how you can have a stylish statement piece in your home without impacting on your living space.

2.  Mind The Light
Not the fairy lights, the natural light, from windows and doors. Natural light is always a winner, so resist the temptation to block out any light by overcrowding windows with stick on decorations or cluttered window ledges. A few candles or a Christmas ornament may accent the area, but a blow-up elf in your window won’t bring your buyers the magic that they are looking for.

3.  Colour Coordinate With Your Existing Décor
We all have favourite decorations that have been in the family for years or were made by the kids. If they don’t fit with your colour scheme, leave them in the loft. You need your decorations to compliment your décor and overall presentation, not dominate it.

4.  Minimise Movement & Sound
Moving parts, loud noises and even the most joyous Christmas music will distract viewers. The inflatable Santa who greets all guests with HO, HO, HO when they tread on the doormat needs to stay in the garage until next year. If viewers are distracted inside or out, it’s not going to result in a sale for you.

5.    Add Kerb Appeal
This is when decorations really come in to their own. A stylish wreath on the door, lighting in the shrubs or a nicely dressed tree give you the opportunity to add a splash of colour and enhance your homes entrance.

6.    Add The Christmas Magic To Your Home
If you create an inviting and stylish space and evoke a feeling of warmth and joy you will have captured the magic of Christmas for any viewers
